Payback Dir: Tahmineh Milani
PAYBACK talks about four women who in one way or the other are the victims of Iranian patriarchal society. They meet in prison where they decide to execute a plan, after release from prison, which would bring them money and also would help to revenge men for their arrogance and carelessness. Each of the protagonist has her own reasons and secrets of past that motivate them to take part in the plan.
Film discusses serious topics such as abortion, separation of children from mothers, home violence, prostitution etc. However, at the same time PAYBACK is surpassingly humorous and easy to watch. Director of the film, Tahmineh Milani, continues the topics of her previous films – social status and rights of women.
PAYBACK is in some ways feministic. Women decide to take their faith and life into their own hands and not to subordinate themselves to men and their demands. They are not afraid to discuss the role of women in society with men. To be fair – men are in these discussions in a somewhat vulnerable position…
