Helena from the Wedding

The fragile psyches of thirty-something professionals trying to survive during the Great Recession provides both the laughs and the tears in this intelligent ensemble comedy drama that features some of New York’s most talented young actors. Alice (Melanie Lynskey) and Alex (Lee Tergesen) have invited a few of their closest friends to a snowy upstate New York cabin to celebrate New Year’s Eve with them, while their own relationship is far from perfect. A third couple, Eve (Dagmara Dominczyk) and Steven (Corey Stoll) are also cautiously circling one another, with the pregnant wife suspecting her husband of cheating on her… with one of the women in the group. All the male libidos and female insecurities are further fueled by the arrival of Helena (Gillian Jacobs), a young, beautiful and single model, which adds considerable sparks to the bonfires already burning. The film has been a major topic of conversation at film festivals around the world.
